Biography / Professional Experience

Dr Henderson is a consultant paediatrician who works in Craigavon Area Hospital as the clinical lead for the paediatric ambulatory services linked to both the emergency department and primary care services, aiming to improve patient flow and quality of care being offered in all areas of acute and general paediatrics by having patients seen in the right place, at the right time, by the right person.

He completed his Medical Training at Queen's University Belfast before progressing to obtaining a Masters in Medical Education and becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH)

He has a special interest in both undergraduate and postgraduate paediatric medical education, where he has contributed to various platforms of educational resources for Queen’s University Belfast and online e-learning training programmes with RCPCH.

He has recently joined a team of international educators, teaching paediatrics outside of the UK and Ireland that includes Asia, Europe, Australia and South Africa.

He is actively involved in ongoing research in the field of medical education in addition to promoting quality improvement in paediatrics, presenting work regionally and nationally.

The most genuine, kind and considerate professional Paediatrician!
"Haven’t seen another Paediatric doctor and was not impressed at the level of professionalism I reached out to Dr.Henderson who quickly got back to me, to lend a hand in helping me along in helping get to the bottom of my daughters issue. He was so genuinely kind and helpful and I have never in my life came across such a helping doctor in my 28 years! Bare in mind I never actually met the wonderful Dr. Henderson and still I stand by this! I reached out in concern, high levels of anxiety and nerves and as he acted professionally he also acted as just a kind human being, a parent himself sympathetic to my concern. I know if I ever need to call on a paediatric doctor again who I will be going to! Thank you so much again. A very grateful Mother."

Unknown allergy
"I brought my 18 month old daughter to see Dr Henderson at the start of the week, to discuss her previous allergic reactions/Symptoms. Dr Henderson was very thorough with his assessment and spoke to me at length about the process of what was happening with my daughter, which put me at great ease.
He sent us for an allergy prick test. The nurses that carried out the test where very good with my daughter which made it an easy process. The test did show up two allergies, As I had thought. Dr Henderson gave us step to step guidance of what to do next, and wrote up a letter for my daughters GP.
Throughout the appointment he was friendly, professional and very understanding of my daughter who wanted to touch everything!!"

Bed Wetting Solved
"I can't recommend Dr. Henderson highly enough. He was great with my 8 year old son and had him starting to be dry at night within days if our first consultation. Dr. Henderson listens to what you have to say and takes time to find the best and most realistic approach."

Childs breathing
"Dr Henderson has been my sons doctor from he was 6 months old. When no other doctor would listen about my concerns with kieron,being in hospital or a+e we were finally referred to dr henderson we where able to get answers to kierons health.dr henderson always explained everything to us an has always been reachable if ive any quires regarding kieron every treatment has been prompt an effective to date"

"We brought our 4 year old to see Dr.Henderson after failed experiences with our local GP.

Dr. Henderson made our son feel at ease and was fantastic in dealing with our son’s anxiety over getting bloods taken.

Daughter foot injury
"Dr Henderson saw my daughter for an injury to her right foot. He was very thorough in his initial examination and questions about symptoms / causes etc. He was very friendly and made her feel relaxed.

He then recommended we should have an MRI (as we had already had several X-Rays before being referred to Dr Henderson). After the MRI was completed my daughter saw Dr Henderson again and he explained the findings in simple terms and brought together the details of the MRI scan along with the details of his examination to form a clearer picture of the results.

Dr Henderson was always professional and knowledgeable in how he explained the injury and the stages of recovery.

My daughter, and I, left feeling reassured and confident in a full and proper diagnosis and understood what was needed to aid my daughters recovery."

Neurological Disabilities in Children
"Dr Henderson has cared for our daughter for over 3 years. She has had several Consultants in her lifetime but none have compared to Dr Henderson. She has great faith in him, and they have built up a remarkable relationship. He has helped her to overcome difficulties associated with her brain disorder. She is so confident and happy to attend his clinic both privately and on the NHS. He is highly competent, good at explaining his thinking to parents and child. He has a positive attitude, provides a careful organised plan for investigations and treatment. With every review he summaries progress, uncovers new issues and sets new goals, nothing is a problem. Normally a Neurologist deals with specific Brain Disabilities but for the day-to-day living with such an underlying condition we would highly recommend Dr Henderson as a caring, professional and friendly Paediatrician."

Failure to Thrive
"I brought my 5 year old to Dr Henderson as she was "presenting small in height for a girl" I really felt he took the time in our consultations to fully explore her medical history in detail, it did not feel in any way rushed. His obvious expertise aside, it is clear to see that Dr Henderson understands a parent's worry, and I feel he went above and beyond. I was able to email him at any time and he was always able to answer my questions honestly and realistically. When our care was moved from private to NHS, he was happy to interpret those results, and was genuinely interested to hear of our progress."

Simple Reactive Lymph Nodes
"We had been concerned about lymph nodes in our son's neck and made an appointment to see Dr Henderson privately at the Ulster Independent Clinic. Dr Henderson was extremely personable and I felt at ease with him. He was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain the various lymph nodes to me through drawings and images on line. He then examined my son thoroughly. I left feeling very reassured. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Henderson, I thought he was excellent."

6 months old baby with an on going cough
"Today was our third visit to Dr. Henderson at the Hillsborough Clinic. Dr Henderson is very professional taking his time to identify every single symptoms. His diagnostics are clear, into details and easy to understand. It's good to know we can trust a local pediatrician. On top of this, Dr Henderson has always been available (even) on a short notice for a quick chat which sometimes can make a huge difference when us, parents, worry about our little ones."
